Waxing, tweezing, shaving- either painful, messy, inconvenient and never last long before you know it the feeling of prickly legs again. Would it not be nice to have less hair, smooth silky legs and more freedom in life!

How l can Laser or Light Hair Removal achieve the most effective results for you? To clearly understand the effectiveness of laser/light hair removal you must understand the growth cycle of the hair known as the three stage life cycle; Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.

Anagen-(growth phase) The active growth phase in which the hair follicles are the most responsive to the laser or light source. The hair is rich in melanin allowing for the most effective treatment. About 85% of hair follicles on our body are in the anagen phase, which can last anywhere from a few months on our body. The duration of the anagen phase for a hair follicle will determine the length of the hair.

Catagen-(transition phase) In this phase the hair stops growing and the hair follicle shrinks in size in this brief period, this phase lasts only up to a couple weeks. The follicle breaks away from the dermal papilla, which supplies nutrients to the hair follicle. The dermal papilla then condenses.

Telogen-(resting phase) This is the final phase when the hair is not growing and the hair follicles are at rest. At which point, the hair follicle reattaches to the dermal papilla, the follicle re-enters the growth phase. A new hair begins to grow, the old hair is pushed out of the follicle.

This would explain why treating the hair follicles in a area can be at different phases in their growth cycle. The most important phase for effective laser/light hair removal is the anagen phase, and will depend on how much hair in the treated area that is in the anagen phase. This is also why repeated laser/light hair reduction treatments are necessary to achieve the best results.
